FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will I have freedom from my glasses or contact lenses with CustomMatch™ Personalized Vision Solutions?
The results will vary depending upon your vision, your lifestyle and the anatomy of your eyes. Some people find that they need glasses to read small type or drive at night. Most people, however, can conduct most of their daily activities without depending on glasses or contact lenses.
How are the ReZoom® and TECNIS® Multifocal lenses different from other intraocular (inside the eye) lenses?
Traditional single-vision intraocular lenses usually provide good distance vision with limited ability to see objects that are up close without glasses. The ReZoom® and TECNIS® Multifocal lenses that make up CustomMatch™ Personalized Vision Solutions provide high-quality, high-contrast vision at a distance and up close in both low-light and bright-light conditions.
How does an intraocular lens replace the natural lens?
The cataract-impaired, natural crystalline lens of the eye is gently removed through a very small incision in the periphery of your eye’s cornea. The new lens is then inserted in its place and remains there permanently. The procedure generally takes about 15 to 45 minutes.
How long after surgery will it take until I see my best?
Like most procedures, this depends upon the overall health of your eye. For most people, vision is noticeably better immediately and continues to improve during the first few weeks following the procedure.
Do ReZoom® and TECNIS® Multifocal lenses require an adjustment period?
Yes. For most people, there is a period while you learn to adjust to this new visual system that allows you to see up close and at a distance with the new lens. This adjustment period differs for each individual. As with all multifocal lenses, some people report halos or glare around lights. This effect diminishes over time for most people. For some, it becomes less troublesome but never completely goes away. Most people report that the ability to see near and far outweighs any visual side effects associated with the lens. Ask your doctor to explain this adjustment period before your procedure.
Are there any risks in having the procedure?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks, and your results cannot be guaranteed. Your doctor should review the important safety issues with you.
What if I’m not a candidate for CustomMatch™ Personalized Vision Solutions?
Your doctor will explain your options and will carefully choose an intraocular lens that will meet your vision needs and give you the best possible vision. For people who are not suitable for a multifocal lens, a conventional lens implant may be the best option. For example, the TECNIS® monofocal lens implant provides sharp distance vision and improves functional vision in low-light conditions, including driving at night.
